Platform migrations usually fail in one of two ways: the history doesn’t make it across cleanly, or it does — along with every broken process from the old system. We treat a migration as the one moment you get to fix both.
What this looks like in practice
- Inventory — what lives in the current system: tickets, assets, users, groups, categories, SLAs, attachments, and integrations.
- Mapping and redesign — field-by-field data mapping, and a decision on which old processes move, change, or retire.
- Trial migrations — repeatable scripted loads into a test instance, with reconciliation reports so counts and key records match.
- Cutover — a written plan with freeze windows, communications, and a rollback point.
- Hypercare — hands-on support for the first weeks while the team settles in.
Where this experience comes from
The founder led the migration and integration of an organization’s full ticket history into BMC Service Desk Express, moved a team’s documentation from spreadsheets into a wiki, and — as CompleteTech’s CTO — migrated the company from a federated managed-service provider to a new managed Azure environment. The common thread: inventory first, rehearse the move, then cut over once.
Who this fits (and who it doesn’t)
Fits: teams moving between ManageEngine, ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, BMC, or a homegrown system. Teams consolidating several desks into one. Teams leaving spreadsheets or a shared mailbox for a real platform.
Doesn’t fit: “lift and shift everything exactly as it is by Friday.” Once you’re live, ITSM Maintenance keeps it that way.
The first conversation
We’ll ask what you’re moving from, what you’re moving to, and what has to be true on day one. Then we size a migration plan with fixed milestones.
